Outpatient Surgery/Colonoscopy


If you are having an: Outpatient Surgery or Colonoscopy
  • Please review the printed instructions given to you when you visited our office.
  • You may be asked to "Pre-register" at the hospital by telephone or by internet before your procedure.
  • Be advised that you will not be allowed to go home alone from your procedure. It is against State laws/regulations.
  • Please take arrange for a companion to drive you home or come with you in the taxi/public transportation. Family, friend, neighbor, landlord, are all examples of acceptable companions.
    • If nobody is available, there are medical car services available to take you home. You will need to arrange this in advance.
  • If you are taking Aspirin, Coumadin, Warfarin, or Plavix, please make sure you follow any instructions to stop those medications.
  • Make sure you have an empty stomach!
    • Starting at 12:01 AM on the day of your procedure you should not eat or drink anything, EXCEPT:
    • A small sip of water to take your medications is allowed. Please ask your surgeon which of your medications should be skipped.
    • Some bowel preparation medications need to be taken on the morning of your procedure if you are doing a "2 day" or "Split Prep."
  • Please Bring information on your preferred pharmacy.
